Object Mount
Storj announced the acquisition of Object Mount at IBC 2024, and this year it returned to IBC 2025 with two vital new features for production workflows. But first — what is Object Mount?
Edit, Conform, Master…
Object storage, whether cloud or on-prem, was not originally designed for editing. Over the past few IBCs, several solutions have emerged to make object storage suitable for production workflows. Object Mount stands out by enabling real-time editing across all object storage types — whether on-premise Object Matrix or cloud platforms like AWS S3, Microsoft Azure, and Storj’s distributed network. Collaborators can share credentials, allowing direct editing no matter where the files reside.
Unlike other solutions, Object Mount does not wrap, shard, or alter files. It presents the storage as a standard file system to your workstation, allowing your favorite NLE to work directly with the file while keeping it accessible to other workflows.
What’s new for IBC 2025?
Network-Based Cache – You can now designate a network volume to store streamed cache. Any file cached for instant access becomes available to all users on the network.
File Pinning – You can identify which files to pin to a local or network cache volume. Normally, Object Mount’s cache operates on a first-in, first-out basis, but pinned files remain persistent and are not cleared when newer files arrive.
These updates make Object Mount an even more powerful and flexible tool for collaborative, production-ready workflows.
Virtual Compute
Finally, Storj announced plans for virtual CPU and GPU compute on its distributed network. For Tyrell, this is particularly exciting: it will enable cheaper compute than AWS, with zero egress fees and ultra-low latency access to Storj storage. New technology boosts performance for high-resolution post-production and flexible workflows
EGG Post Production & VFX, one of Ireland’s leading post-production facilities, has expanded its capabilities with a significant storage upgrade from EditShare. This investment supports EGG’s growing demand for high-performance workflows, including 4K and beyond colour grading, while improving remote collaboration and workflow flexibility.
The project was delivered in collaboration with Tyrell, EditShare’s long-time channel partner in Ireland, who worked closely with EGG and EditShare to scope, install, and support the new system.
Founded in 2004 by editors Gary Shortall and Gareth Young, EGG has built a strong reputation for its award-winning editing, finishing, sound, and VFX services. The company delivers content for major Irish, UK, and US broadcasters, as well as audiences worldwide, making reliability and efficiency in their storage infrastructure critical to their operations.
To meet these demands, EGG has integrated EditShare’s 96TB NVMe and EFS300 256TB storage solutions, replacing an older system that could no longer support the increasing technical requirements of high-resolution workflows. Whisper extends EditShare to build new capabilities
Dynamic workflows designed by Tyrell will support Whisper’s major commissions
EditShare, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative workflows at every stage from storyboard to screen, has implemented another EFS storage network at leading UK entertainment production company Whisper. The system was designed and implemented in conjunction with EditShare’s partner Tyrell.
Whisper is highly regarded for its sports, live and entertainment coverage, including some of the largest events globally. Having recently secured commissions for multiple new documentary series, it has added an extensive new storage network and access facilities.
“We already have two EditShare storage nodes that we rely on, and which have proven extremely reliable over a number of years,” said Gareth Steven, head of post production at Whisper. “This new project calls for content with large production teams accessing and editing the content simultaneously. EditShare and Tyrell showed us that the scalability and workflow functionality met our requirements perfectly.”
The new installation sees three EditShare EFS-300 storage systems, each with 256 TB capacity, which are seen by users as a single namespace for simplicity and security in operation. The storage network is freely and continuously expandable to provide capacities exceeding a petabyte if required.
“Content security was also a key requirement for Whisper,” said Simon Wocka, account manager at Tyrell. “Media storage is like a bank vault: the assets it contains are priceless and must be protected above all else. Security is a core part of the EditShare architecture, providing the best protection at every stage without compromising operational ease and flexibility.
“EditShare also allows access directly within the key post tools that will be used on these shows,” he continued. “Artists using Adobe Premiere Pro or Blackmagic DaVinci can use EditShare integrations within their software environment, allowing them to access content directly. They don’t need to change workstations or learn new commands and structures – it removes barriers and makes workflows much simpler.”

The Studio Network Solutions team are steadily coming to market with a compelling user and commercial story. Coming out of their NAB Show announcements are a raft of workflow developments that have caught our eye and are worth exploring further.
Markers and subclips for Premier & Resolve
One of the highlights from the updates is the ability to add timecode-specific markers to any media clip, creating frame-accurate comments searchable across their ShareBrowser MAM.
SNS have further developed their integration with Adobe Premier and Resolve, so that all subclips can be imported directly into these NLEs. This combination allows directors, producers and production staff to subclip content and annotate notes, that will be directly passed through to the editors timeline. Creating huge time savings and simplifying the end to end process.
Bandwidth Control
Another development which we think is innovative is how SNS have introduced a Control/throttle bandwidth. The new feature of bandwidth throttling is ideal for large volume users and connecting services to ensure that everyone can have the access and performance for their desired tasks.
