Every week this month we’ll be shining the spotlight on a different member of the Tyrell team to show you exactly why we’re the very best in the business and first up, it’s our enigmatic Sales Director, Dan Muchmore.

Name: Dan Muchmore
Job title: Sales Director
Miles on the industry clock: 22 years

It is a little known fact about Dan that he started out life with a dream of playing rock’n’roll to arenas full of adoring crowds. However, Dan soon realised that his talents were perhaps better placed studio-side and so then began his ambition of becoming a recording engineer, and thus music’s loss became media technology’s gain.

After a few years of developing his audio skills, Dan began his career at Digidesign (originally part of Avid) and gradually his focus shifted from the music-side of the business to the intriguing world of post-production and broadcast.

Dan sights ‘intrigue’ as being the driving force of his career, stemming from his curiosity in learning how songs were recorded and assembled, to then becoming immersed in the absorbing world of post-production. Following a wonderful start to his career at Avid, Dan’s desire to develop his skills, and keep his intrigue well-sated, saw him embark on a new journey with Clear-Com. Here, he faced the challenge of thriving in a completely new arena, the heady world of Comms.

Dan is the first to admit that Clear-Com was not an easy brand to represent at the time, given how much market they had lost in previous years, and he credits his time there as being an incredible lesson in the value of good communications, and having the opportunity to develop a market and brand interest in a challenging environment.

After a rewarding time at Clear-Com, the pull of intrigue came tugging once more, and it was time to make another move. This time Dan found himself at Vitec Videocom, best known for their Vinten, Sachtler and Autoscript brands, and standing firmly at the helm of a brand new challenge. It was at Vitec Videocom that Dan had the pleasure, and responsibility, of developing an international sales team and creating a strategic-market approach to looking after important accounts. It’s safe to say that it was Dan’s success in leading his own team and implementing his own market strategy at Vitec that lead him straight to the present day and the role he now plays at Tyrell.

Joining long-time friend Bryan Malone (Tyrell MD) at Tyrell, Dan is adamant that it was Bryan’s infectious energy and desire to make Tyrell the best it could be that sparked his intrigue once more and made him sure that a move to Tyrell was the right one. Now, years later, and with the business continuing to go from strength to strength, Dan’s belief in what the Tyrell brand can achieve knows no bounds.
